The Full Picture

Companion services are provided to participants living in private homes for the limited purposes of providing supervision or assistance that is focused on the health and safety of the individual. These services may be provided in home and community settings, including the individual’s competitive employment workplace. Companions may supervise and provide assistance with activities of daily living, including grooming, health care, household care, meal preparation and planning, and socialization. These services can also be provided when the individual is sleeping to protect the safety of the participant. For example, a companion can stay overnight with an individual who lives on their own but does not have the ability to safely evacuate in the event of an emergency.
